Threadless

Threadless was created way back in year 2000 by Jake Nickell and Jacob DeHart. They came up with the idea after Jake Nickell won the NMUF London tee shirt competition. It felt good to win a tee shirt competition and the creators thought it’d be cool to extend that to the level that Threadless has become.

This site is the originator of the community-centric (read: community–based, community-generated, community-driven) fashion concept. Coin tags such as community, fashion , wisdom-of-crowds and t-shirts and you will get this pioneer of a site.

The community
Why community? T-shirt designs are made by anyone who can send in designs… people like… you! If you can manage to send in a design, the community can critique and, if eventually chosen, will amazingly award you with cash and stuff.

The T-shirts
They offer a unique and a huge selection of shirts with winning designs closely chosen by their community. Aside from the very cool designs, these shirts, as per other user reviews, are of high quality.

Other Mentionables
• They run competitions and/or contests.
• They put up sales and promotions.
• Their site has designer interviews.
• They now cater to not only guys and girlies but also babies and kids!
• They have great customer service

Threadless also has another site for garments of kids aged 0-12 and they just recently opened a retail store for kids’ garments on Chicago. This is proof that Threadless have become so popular that they have now open a store for kids and probably another one for the non-kids customers.
The site’s awesome playfulness will strike you first then it captures your creativity and entwines you with their community and the next thing you know, you are one of their loyal customers. And mind you, they take very good care of their customers.
