The “Home of Crowdsourcing” - this is what Cambrian House used to call themselves. The concept was to tap the wisdom and participation of the crowds to gather round and create innovative products or services, market these innovations and share in the profits of such.
The site was able to use the wisdom of the community through ideas, feedbacks and visions that they were able to contribute. People participated by forming teams that worked together to form innovative products and services that can be put up as businesses.
To date, they have the following successfully crowdsourced projects on their portfolio:
Gwabs™
- What MSN did for texting, Gwabs™ is about to do for gaming. Gwabs lets you instant battle your friends, desktop to desktop.
Greedy or Needy™
- Fulfills the everyday wishes for everyday people. Anyone can submit a wish, promote it to the world, and have their dreams fulfilled through the wisdom of crowds.
Prezzle™
- Adds surprise, spirited wrapping and suspense to online gifting.
FilmRiot™
- A leader in applying crowdsourcing to funding independent film projects.
Chaordix™
- The Chaordix™ crowdsourcing platform enables businesses to host and engage a crowd community for crowd-enabled discovery.
MakeGood
- Enables small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) worldwide to facilitate and convey “corporate social responsibility” (CSR) effectively. It allows companies to motivate and retain employees; utilize an effective business development tool; contribute more effectively to their community; and to be true contributors to positive change.
The site had been the place to connect with talented people, share ideas and make visions a reality. But as of writing, they are no longer accepting registrations. The reason is as quoted below:
Cambrian House began as a crowdsourcing community in 2006. Now we’re evolving the community to the next stage - adding commerce in a big way. On May 20, we’re kicking off a partnership with VenCorps who is using the Cambrian House Chaordix™ crowdsourcing platform to launch a brand-spanking new community about finding and funding startups through the wisdom of crowds. The Cambrian House community is invited to move in with VenCorps!
Currently, the Cambrian House has launched their Chaordix Crowdsourcing Software and built VenCorps on it. They’ve also started work on Make Good Technologies and other things. That is on top of the rumors spreading that Cambrian House is already defunct when in reality the CH community has just evolved into a new community.
